YMCA Participates in The Inauguration Day of International Year of Volunteers 2001
As the inaugural event of observing the International Year of Volunteers 2001 world wide, a grand rally was held in Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh on December 5, 2000 the International Volunteers Day. The rally was jointly organized by the Youth and Sports Ministry of the Government of Bangladesh and the Voluntary Organizations' Forum dedicated to observe the International Year of Volunteers 2001. Thousands of people including NGO activists, school & college students and host of others partook at the rally. The volunteers and staff members of the Bangladesh YMCAs in solidarity to observe the International Year of Volunteers 2001 participated at the rally. Men and women from different organizations were mustered up in front of the National Museum at 10.00 am with their banners, balloons, festoons, etc. T- Shirts with the IYV logo was also worn by the participants. The colorful procession proceeded for a couple of hour and concluded at the National Press Club of Dhaka city. The procession cheered almost all the people up in the streets and was also incentive to mass awakening. The rally concluded with short speeches by the organizers. The rally was no doubt a glowing tribute for the volunteers all over the world. It may be worthwhile to mention that the National Council of YMCAs of Bangladesh is the member of the Steering Committee formed to observe the International Year of Volunteers 2001 in the Non Government Sector.
