The Story of Shikha Gayen

 

Shikha looks like a happy housewife today but when she got married, the economical condition of her husband was poor. During that period her husband worked as an unskilled day labour and earned a poor amount of money what was nothing comprising to the need of their family. Shikha became shocked to see the economical condition of her husband.

During that time she was exploring the way to cooperate with her husband for changing their economical situation. In the meantime, being informed and inspired by the Field Staff of Kaligram YMCA she became a member of a women group. After a certain period she initiated a poultry with her first loan of Taka 3,000. Gradually she and her husband together extended the poultry with the 2nd loan of Taka 5,000.

She produces chickens in her poultry farm and sells them in the market with the cooperation of her husband and thus earns a satisfactory living. Shikha become capable to remove the poverty from her family to some extent. Now she can bear all the expenses of her family and can refund the weekly savings and loan installment easily from the profit. She wants to purchase some farming land for cultivation. Thus she want to continue at least 2/3 small businesses to earn more money what will be essential to make the future for their children.

In the meantime, through the process of group activities she gained some knowledge of preventive health care and the importance of education. Now she is determined to provide education to her children as much as possible.

Thus Shikha becomes self-reliant, happy and a successful woman through the process of the Community Organizing Program of Kaligram YMCA.
