WORKSHOP ON GENDER EQUITY
Affirming the Challenge 21 the National Council of YMCAs of Bangladesh has put accent on gender balance as well as gender development activities in Bangladesh YMCA and as a part of it a Two-day Workshop on ‘Gender Equity’ was held from August 17-18, 2001 at Caritas Development Institute in Dhaka.
Members of the Gender & Task Force of National Council and several Youth Leaders of different Local YMCAs attended the Workshop while Ms. Mridu Thanki, Consultant of DFID, was the chief facilitator of the Workshop. Mr. Babu Markus Gomes and Mr. Duncan Chowdhury, the President & the National General Secretary of the National Council of YMCAs of Bangladesh respectively, were also present at the Workshop. The Workshop was organized laying emphasis on the following objectives-
Increase knowledge about concepts of gender, its development and frame it in Bangladesh context.
Explore, question and debate gender specific issues in the day to day life and work.
Highlight the need for gender considerations and equal opportunities in planning and execution of programmes.
Enhance capacity to build in gender perspective in every expression of YMCA work.
Enable participants to develop an action plan to put policy into practice.
It is expected that the participants shall be able to play an important role in promoting this issue and work for Gender Justice through their own YMCAs with the help of their achieved learning from the Workshop.
