Bangladeshi Volunteers for Tsunami Rahabilitiation Program |

Three volunteers from Bangladesh YMCAs have arrived at Colombo, Srilanka, on 29th of April, 2005. They are Dilip Gregory, Hubert Nipu Purification and David Promod Bairagee of Dhaka YMCA. These volunteers will be working in the local YMCAs of Sri Lanka, participating in the Post Tsunami Long Term Rehabilitation Program.The YMCAs of Sri Lanka has embarked on a massive relief and rehabilitation program after the tsunami which hit on December 26, 2004 in the coastal areas of Sri Lanka as well as other surrounding countries in the Indian Ocean. Repairing dwelling houses,
building new houses, reconstruction of damaged YMCA Buildings, supply of
educational materials for the school children, provide home sustenance for
the tsunami affected families, counseling for
the affected people are the core components of the rehabilitation program. Norwegian Peace Corps. Fredskorpset is sponsoring all the costs related to this volunteer program. Beside the Bangladeshi Volunteers, three volunteers from India and six from Norway is participating in this Program. They will be staying in Sri Lanka for the next six months and return home. |
