Secretaries Consultation 2003

In Globalization people has become closer and at the same time numerous issues have been emerged in the community which needs to be addressed on priority basis. With a view to understand, share & analyze our contemporary issues as well as to prioritize future steps, the National Council of YMCAs of Bangladesh organized a Consultation Meeting of YMCA Secretaries held from July 16-17, 2003 at YMCA Training Centre, Savar, Dhaka. The theme chosen for the Consultation was "Contemporary Issues & Our Responses".

The topics discussed at the Meeting were: i) Drug Addictions amongst the Youth and our Responses ii) Role of the Secretaries in the YMCA iii) The relation between Professionals & Volunteers in the YMCA.

Mr. Duncan Chowdhury, National General Secretary, NCYB explained the purpose of the Consultation at the beginning of the program. Mr. Arnold C. Gomes, Ex. President, NCYB, Mr. Matthew Malaker, Ex. National General Secretary, NCYB and a team from the renowned Drug Addiction Rehabilitation Center APON, Dhaka, shared their experiences as resource persons at the Consultation.

To have an in-depth experience about the drug related deprivation as well to understand the situation, the Secretaries had the opportunity to visit the Bangladesh Rehabilitation & Assistance Centre for Addicts (BARACA), Savar, Dhaka.

The Consultation concluded with the participating Secretaries’ intention to initiate programs to built awareness amongst the Youth at the Local YMCA level.
