A New YMCA in Rajshahi

A new YMCA has been formed in Rajshahi. On 19^th November 2004, the Installation Ceremony and first Oath Taking Ceremony of Rajshahi YMCA took place at the local Caritas Auditorium. Rt. Rev. Bishop Paulinus Costa was the Chief Guest of the occasion while the National General Secretary, Mr. Duncan Chowdhury and Rev. Sudakta Baidya, (Pastor, Church of Bangladesh) were present at the Ceremony.

Mr. Duncan Chowdhury and Mr. Michael Das, Program Co ordinator of the National Coucil, conducted a workshop for the members of Rajshahi YMCA on that day, while Rev. Sudakta Baidya, conducted the oath taking ceremony.  57 Members took oath and became the founding members of Rajshahi YMCA.  An Adhoc Committee of Rajshahi YMCA has been formed under the leadership of Mr. Francis Soren. This committee will work for the interim period until a full fledged Executive Committee is formed.

The formation of Rajshahi YMCA was the manifestation of the YMCA extension policy of the National Council. We gratefully acknowledge the personal initiative of Mr. Marcel Gomes, President of the National Council of YMCAs of Bangladesh  which lead to the formation of this new YMCA. Rajshahi is the biggest city in the Northern Bangladesh.

We hope and pray for a prosperous YMCA in Rajshahi.
