"A sustainable organization is one that has a reasonable prospect of continuing to function and develop within a reasonable time to work productively with its target groups." Sustainability of an organization is not a very easy task to accomplish. Moreover as Christ centered organization, the YM-YWCA's development works need to bear witness to Christian love & service to all disadvantaged & disaster-affected people irrespective of caste and creed. Putting accent on these issues, the Delta Partners’ Meeting 2002 entitled ‘Our Endeavor to Sustainability’ was held from October 27 – November 4 2002, in Dhaka at the YWCA Conference Center on quest of particularizing some strategies to attain sustainability in the programs of YM-YWCA movement.

Delta International is the overseas development wing of Norwegian YM-YWCA. As the host partners, both Bangladesh YMCA and YWCA jointly coordinated the meeting wherein about 22 representatives from other overseas partner YMCA-YWCA of Delta were attended the meeting.

The delegates had the opportunity to avail field trips to different Local YMCAs & YWCAs to witness their development endeavors for people at the grass root level as well as their approach to sustainability.

The delegates drew out some recommendations on the following issues to hit the mark of sustainability.

• Definition of self-reliance and sustainability in the YMCA – YWCA context.

• YMCA – YWCA mission & ethics versus business development.

• Institutional framework for self-reliance & sustainability.

• Capacity building for self–reliance & sustainability.

• Community involvement & empowerment.

• Partnership & networking.
