Cultural Program in Ranchi, India

As a movement, Bangladesh YMCA has been emphasizing to participate in the cultural life of people and foster interaction between and amongst cultures towards a harmonious global community. Our endeavor is to come up with such programs that mobilize youths as proactive agents of social transformation. In this perspective, the Bangladesh YMCA Cultural Group comprised of 20 members gathered for a Cultural Program in India hosted by the Ranchi YMCA from 12 – 19th April 2005 with the generous sponsorship of the Norwegian YWCA-YMCA.

In Ranchi, Bangladesh YMCA Cultural Group performed a Cultural Soiree with various folk cultural components of the country. The historical struggle of people, which leads to the independence, was depicted through a series of chorus and solo songs accompanied by folk dances. In addition to that, there was a separate component of a cultural presentation of the Garo Tribal Community, with Garo songs and traditional dances. The Ranchi group also performed a similar presentation. There were three big shows that fascinated around thousand of people of Ranchi in each show and got a worthy local media coverage. The group had a very meaningful interactions with the youth group of Ranchi on global challenges of youths and emphasized on inter movement co-operation & sharing of resources in this regard. Moreover, the group visited the existing programs of Ranchi YMCA.

We believe, the exchange shall bring better understanding and build closer ties amongst the partner organizations and lead towards new programs that can make impact on the lives of many people in our country.
