Bill Harte Visits Bangladesh 

 Mr. Bill Harte, Chief Executive, Glasgow YMCA, Scotland

The name of Mr. Bill Harte goes with the history of the  Bangladesh YMCAs. He came to Dhaka from Scotland on the 24 November 2005, during his stay at Dhaka he visited the National Council of YMCAs of Bangladesh and Dhaka YMCA and met the YMCA leaders here. 

Soon after the independence of Bangladesh in the year 1971, he came here and stayed here in Bangladesh for several years as the Director of "YMCA Services in Bangladesh" the Relief and Rehabilitation Program of the World Alliance of YMCAs.  During those days he inspired the Christian Youths here to organize themselves to form YMCAs in various districts. He advised and supported those youth to develop YMCA and thus the YMCA movement spread out in  Barisal, Chittagong, Dinajpur, and Netrokona  (Birisiri) districts of Bangladesh. He was also instrumental to develop the Dhaka YMCA as a pioneer YMCA of the country. Then he also guided the leaders to form the National Council of YMCAs in order to build up formal relationship with the World Alliance of YMCAs.

Mr. Harte has devoted his life in the service of the YMCA movement. At present he is serving as the Chief Executive of Glasgow YMCA in Scotland.  

Dhaka YMCA organized a Reception in his honor on 1 December 2005   many distinguished leaders were present at the Reception.

His visit marked the initiation of formal partnership relation between the Glasgow YMCA and the Bangladesh YMCA. He expressed his interest for Non Formal Primary Education Program and the Health Care Program of Bangladesh YMCA.  He departed from Dhaka on the 2 December 2005.
