33rd Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting of the National Council of YMCAs of Bangladesh was held successfully on 20th November 2009 at the YMCA Training Center, Savar, Bangladesh, with due fervor and solemnity.

The meeting started by a devotion lead by Rev. Samuel Bala and presided by the President Mr. Symon P. Adhikary. In his inaugural speech, Mr. Adhikary welcomed all the members at the meeting and gave an overview of the Organization to the Delegates present. National General Secretary, Mr. Duncan Chowdhury presented the Annual Report. The members had a long discussion on the report and accepted the same. The Audited Statements of Accounts for the past three years and relevant budgets were adopted at the meeting. A total of 62 Delegates both incoming and outgoing Representatives, Presidents and General Secretaries from 10 Local YMCAs attended the meeting.

Mr. Nirmal Rozario, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Christian Association, and President of the Christian Cooperative Credit Union, Dhaka was present as a Special Guest at the meeting. In his speech he emphasized that women, youth and ethic minorities were the focus areas of the Christian Cooperative Credit Union, similarly he pointed out that the YMCA too, had similar priorities. He proposed that his organization could take joint projects with the YMCA in this respect. This was gladly accepted by the members present.

The new Office Bearers of the Organization were also elected at the first Meeting of the National Executive Committee, which took place immediately after the conclusion of the Annual General Meeting. Mr. Symon P. Adhikary, NEC Member of Kaligram YMCA was re-elected as President, while Mr. Melvine R. Rozario NEC Member of Chittagong YMCA, Rev. Samuel Bala, NEC Member of Gopalgonj YMCA and Mr. Favian Mondol NEC Member of Dinajpur YMCA were elected as Vice Presidents and Mr. Raymond Areng, NEC Member of Birisiri YMCA was elected as the Honorary Treasurer of the Organization for the next tenure.

The meeting ended with affirmation of the Delegates from the Local YMCAs to work together towards fulfillment the mission of the YMCA with transparency, accountability and governance.
