29th Annual General Meeting of the National Council of YMCAs of Bangladesh

Mr. Marcel A. Gomes, President of National Council of YMCAs of Bangladesh presided over the meeting. Representatives, Representatives, Presidents and General Secretaries from all the local YMCAs were present at the meeting, beside these, Observers from the newly formed YMCAs were present at the meeting.
Rev.
James T. Halder, General Secretary of Bangladesh Bible Society, lead
the Opening Devotion. The
meeting was launched with the opening speech of Mr. Marcel A. Gomes,
President of National Council of YMCAs of Bangladesh. He addressed the
issues and expressed his concern for political and economical combat in
the region, deterioration of law and order situation, injustice and moral
degradation and sky rocketing of prices of consumer products in the
country. These posed new challenges for the YMCA movement. In
the circumstances, he requested to all lay and professional leaders to be
accountable and transparent and take the challenges to extend our services
working together for building a just and peaceful society.
Mr.
Duncan Chowdhury, National General Secretary of the National Council of
YMCAs of Bangladesh presented his Annual Report for the year 2004-2005
and focused on the issue of religious fundamentalism that is gradually
spreading in the country. He requested to all to be firm in Christian
faith and act accordingly to establish justice and peace in society.
Subsequently, Mr. Anthony Topno, Honarary Treasurer presented his Annual
Financial Report for the year 2004-2005.
After the discussion on all agenda, the meeting was closed with the concluding speech by Mr. Marcel A. Gomes and closing prayer by Mr. Patrick Sarker, President of Jessore YMCA.
