Birisiri YMCA
Birisiri YMCA was started on 3rd November in 1972 at the instance of Dhaka YMCA. Mr. Dipok Sangma, a Local Youth Leader, who was working at Dhaka was in touch with Dhaka YMCA, was highly inspired by the activities of Dhaka YMCA and cherished a desire to start a similar association in his native village, Birisiri, Netrokona. On different occasions, while he used to visit his home, he used to discuss his ideas with some of his fellow Christian Youths and in particular he induced Mr. Nirendra Chisim, a local youth leader, to take the lead to form a local YMCA at Birisiri. This ultimately lead to formation of Birisiri YMCA.
Birisiri is a Garo (Tribal) village under the Durgapur Thana in Greater Mymensingh District. It is about 25 miles north-east of Mymensingh District Town. Majority of the inhabitants of this village are Garo Christians. Two main Churches namely Catholic Church and Baptist Church, have been working among the Tribal people of this locality for about hundred years. The Missionaries of Churches have been working for social and community development establishing a good number of institutions two primary schools, two high schools, a Primary Teachers Training Institute, a post office, a Clinic and separate hostels for boys and girls students; besides the churches with their ancillary establishments. In recent years a voluntary organization World Vision has been working in the locality for Socio-economic development of the Garo Community. As a result Birisiri stands as a developed village. In and around village Birisiri there is plain and high land which yields good crops and most of the villagers are found to be farmers with more or less sound economic condition. Educationally the Garo Christians of the area as a whole and the people of Birisiri in particular, have been much better than other tribal areas in recent years. Birisiri YMCA thus, since its inception, have been in a congenial atmosphere and started working hand in hand with above noted institutions and organizations for enhancement of its cause.
Birisiri YMCA started working under an adhoc committee with Adult Education and recreational program in the evening hours since its founding. There were two oath taking ceremonies organized by the association in 1974 bringing in 16 full members. The Association, begin one of the founder member of the National Council of YMCAs of Bangladesh, became one of its affiliated members from the founding date of NCYB on 3rd February in 1974. the Association adopted its Constitution on 17th January in 1980 in a full session with 45 full members. The 1st Election of the Association was held on 4th April in 1976 in a General Meeting and formed the full fledged Board of Directors with the following members:

The Association has registered with the Social Service Department, Government of Bangladesh on the 10th May in 1986. The members of this Association during the year 1999-2000 are as follows: Full Members - 84, Associates Member - 22. The Board of Directors for the Year 2005-2006 are as follows:
