YMCA helps Goutam Panda To change his life |

Goutam Anadi Panda hails from a traditional Hindu Family in Bangladesh, was born in a village called Badomogda, situated in the Thana of Agoiljhara, in Barisal District. He is now around thirty years of age. He now works in the mega city of Mumbai in India. Anadi is third of his five brothers and sisters. He couldn't continue his studies after class eight due to the poor economic condition of his family. Then he took the training in the Carpentry Training Section of Barisal YMCA in the year 1984. He successfully competed the training of one year. After his training he received a set of carpentry tools from Barisal YMCA, with which he started working independently in his village. The income he had in his village was not enough to meet his needs, hence he came to the capital city Dhaka for better prospect. He worked in Dhaka for three years, he met an accident while working at his work place, for which he was temporarily handicapped and had been compelled to return to his home village. However, he was fortunate to recover and soon again he was fit to resume to his work. This time he decided to go to India. He was waiting for an opportunity. At last in the year 1988 he availed an opportunity to go West Bengal, India and where he started his work again. He always thought of doing better in his life. He with some of his friends went to Mumbai, (former Bombay). There he started to learn the art of fitting tiles and marble stone. Mumbai seemed to favor him and his earning started to increase. Now he works as a sub-contractor in the same trade and earns more than fifteen thousand rupees per month. Today he is established in the society. He still works hard for a better future. He thinks that the training he received from Barisal YMCA had changed his life. He expresses is heartfelt gratitude to Barisal YMCA for providing him with the training free of any charges. The Barisal YMCA had been conducting these training for the needy youth since mid Eightees, each year twenty trainees passed out from this section. The Delta International, the Development Wing of the Norwegian YWCA-YMCA financially supports Vocational Training Program of the National Council of YMCAs of Bangladesh. Barisal YMCA is one of the eleven affiliated local YMCAs of the National Council of YMCAs of Bangladesh. Barisal YMCA also conducts sewing training program for the destitute girls. |
